Join us for November’s Family Studio Day on Saturday, November 15, 10AM-2PM, to try your hand at making cyanotypes (aka sunprints)! In this beginner-friendly photographic process, you simply lay an object on light-sensitive paper and let the sun do the work. The paper that’s covered by the object remains white, while the exposed sections turn a lovely blue hue. Exhibiting artist Zofie King incorporates this technique into her mixed media works to stunning effect, and Zofie will be in the gallery to demonstrate and teach us about this long-used process! That artist’s exhibition, "What Remains," is currently on view and will help spark everyone’s creativity. (https://www.secondstreetgallery.org/zofie-king)

Want to plan ahead? Bring in some of your favorite natural materials (leaves, flowers, feathers) or small trinkets to experiment with. The mixed media artwork featured in exhibiting artist Zofie King’s exhibition. Otherwise, we’ll provide all the necessary materials for this project, along with plenty of other mediums in case you’d like to tap into a different mode of creativity that day.

Each month, we take inspiration from the exhibitions on view to come up with a featured activity for all our guests to enjoy. Everyone is welcome!
